I'd like some bathing advice for my little boys Leroy and Malcolm When should I give them their first bath? One is 6 weeks and the other is 9 weeks. We used to bathe our sows when I was little but can't remember much about it exactly... apart from all of the wriggling and splashing What's the best way to do it and how often? Any shampoo recommendations?

If they dont really need it, I would wait. I think the important thing is that they are thoroughly dired, whenever you decide to do it. I have never known a piggie who likes their bath!

I think I will leave it a bit. Leroy is a bit of a wriggler as it is

As said no point in washing them until they need it, I use the gorgeous guineas mini pig shampoo not for babies as Ive not yet had to wash babies but for younger pigs I find it great it rinses off really well.

I have heard you shouldn't bath piggys under 3 months. Its not just shampoo but water... I guess it would be stressful for them. I waited a little longer than that with my mini pigs and used something nice like Gorgeous guineas on them when the time came.

Usually the only time I've bathed piggies, is when they are little, and I want to introduce them to other pigs, as I've read that it helps the integration if you remove any smell of their mother. I usually bath any pig they are to mixed with at the same time, as after a bath a piggy spends a lot of time sorting out his coat, and so the focus is taken off the newcomer, temporarily at least.
I guess the youngest pigs I've bathed were about 8-10 weeks old. As long as your "bath" is not too deep (I use an old roasting tin with a tea towel laid in the bottom so the piggy can't slide about), and the water is comfortably warm, most piggies seem to take to a bath quite well. I have some rabbit/guinea shamppo that I bought from Petsmart, which I use sparingly, and rinse the piggy off using a small beaker. I try to bathe them as quickly as possible to avoid any unnecessary stress, wrap them in a nice warm towel afterwards, and give them their favourite treat. I always manage to get soaked though!
