Hi I am known to many as 'the girl's mom' but since I am getting a boar next week(!) mom will have to do now. He is a rescue of sorts. I will be his third owner. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have 7 ladies and now they are getting a sheik for the harem. For now he will be in here (the study) in a Super Pet XL cage. We will put on an apartment to our existing C & C cage for him. Oh his name is Doolittle and I will not change it. I am glad to be here and look forward to learning about the boys!!!

welcome Judy, glad you are here too. Sounds like Doolittle is one lucky boar with a hareem of 7! We will try help all we can. Please do check out my actual website www.barmy4boars.co.uk there is some useful info on there about caring for boars. Its much the same as sows really with a few extras like a grease gland and willy to clean(!). The boars with sows info on there needs a bit of an overhaul and so I'm not sure how much help it will be to you. But there are a few owners here who have boars with sows that will no doubt be able to help. Is he coming to you neutered? Its so exciting getting new pigs. I;m getting two newbies soon and I;m so excited!!!

Susie, Doolittle is not neautered. We will put an addition on our existing C&C cage for him. This weekend we are moving things around and on Monday I will get another sheet of coroplast and get going on the King's quarters! I am not going to neuter him. It scares me way too much. From what I have read, he should be very happy chatting with 7 other piggies through the cage bars. I love your website.

Well Doolittle has a follow-up visit on Monday with the vet. We will then st up for his neutering. I feel as if I finally have all the bits figured out! I also think that his 'greasy rump hair' is due to boar grease. I put some dish liquid right on the spot and cleaned it well. I didn't do a fabulous job all over his rump as you can't scrub a piggy like you do a dog. I saw enough difference though to make me feel that it is bear grease that mats down and separates his long rump hair. The next time I bath him I will pay more attention and if I get him all soft and flowing I will take a pigture. He has been in the the study for these past few weeks. I felt so sorry for him that last night we moved him on in next to the main cage. There was some bar chewing and I woke up this morning with fear he had climbed the cage walls! He was in the corner sound asleep.

Aw. Look forwards to more Doolittle pics. Have you tried Swarfega for the grease gland? This stuff is really great I find.

Swarfega is not a US product. I think it would be the same as our Go-Jo hand cleaner. The dish liquid worked well and I gave him a second bath with plain puppy shampoo. I couldn't find bunny or kitten. He is really not paying that much attention to the girls. I am amazed but at least he has company.

Oh right. I thought you had decided he was happy living next to them? Congratulations on your 3 week'versarie! Time flies doesn't it. Hope the op goes well. And keep a close eye afterwards as that is the most common time problems can occur. Keep him on towels so he doesn't get any sharp bedding near and so you can see any blood ect. He'll be living with the ladies in no time then!

You know Susie he probably is happy but I want him to experience all he can. The girls are rumblestrutting themselves to no avail. It is so funny. They do cage bar chew every so often but nothing obnoxious. I am glad the surgery is on a Monday if we need to go back for any reason. I wouldn't want to worry all weekend about having to go to the emergency vet instead of my own. I cleaned his cage today but I will clean it again Sunday night.
