This board is for you to discuss finding company for your Piggys. This is the greatest gift you can give a piggy. If you are looking for information on pairing up a boar you may like to check out the info on the Options on my website I would very much like to hear about your experiances of keeping boars. How did you introuduce them? How did you keep the peace? Did you have to seperate them? If so how do you know keep them? Please share your thoughts for the benefit of all

The breeder is actually bringing the little guy to me, although if it doesn't work out she is more than willing to take him back. At the moment I am fine with that arrangement, but if it doesn't work out and I really fall for him, he will be staying on and neighbouring them, Smudge, Cracker and X the Rex, or at least that is what my mam thinks, I think she knows me too well!

thats really good of the breeder though it would have been nice for you to see the other stock and check that they all look healthy and well cared for. When is the little guy coming?

He's coming on Wednesday, not long after my last exam finishes :DI'm so excited for many reasons:DOne thing I wanted to ask though, I was going to introduce them in a run and watch them like a hawk for over an hour/hour and a half to check there were no fights, then see how things go. I was going to leave them out in the run for a few hours providing it's not like it has been the last couple of days in terms of heat and sun, then i was going to put them in a huge 2 rabbits sized hutch, so they have plenty of space. Neither of them have been in this hutch before so they can't fight over territory. I would then monitor them for a length of time in there, to check there were no disputes. If they were getting on fine, would they be okay overnight?that's the one thing that worries me, leaving them alone at night, not knowing if they will be okay or not,

Wouldn't leave them alone in the run in the day Kirsten. You will want to watch closely at first. If they are fine then yes you can leave them but I wouldn't advise you do so in an outdoor run for safety reasons... preditors, escapes (pigles are small) and fear too... out in the open. I wuld bring them in... do your pigs live outdoors then?

Yeh my piggies live outdoors, our house as a full house (with the one next door) is like a U shape, but its a semi so we have half, they are nestled in the middle of the "u" but we wouldn't be able to hear anything if there was fighting;my brothers would because they are at that end of the house but I am at the other end, if that makes any sense. I can introduce them indoors and keep them in with me all day, but they stay outside during the summer and come into the outhouse during the winter and bonfire nights, new years etc.
I have spare hutches if it doesnt work out but here's hoping it does!

I forgot to say, the run has a lid so predators cannot get into the run, it is heavy and so cannot be pushed off.The run frame is also heavy so the piglets cannot get under it, as it was used for my piglets a few years back. Will watch them closely anyways, I've forgotten how small piglets can be!

Ok Kirsten just bare in mind the severity of the weather just now. Very warm... and remeber how delicate a little piglet is. Of course indoors is much better for the piggys and ultimatley I feel all piggys shouls be kept this way as our wether is just not suitable for outdoor living... but I appreciate its not as easy as that for you Kirsten living with parents. And you are doing your best.
How excited are you right now?

I don't think I'm all that excited yet really!Mainly curious:) I've only ever seen one rex in the flesh before, and that's the one I sadly couldn't take because of the risks, and when he was six weeks old he was so small, he must have been from a big litter, he was tiny!So yeh, the only thing is, I've been thinking of the colour chestnut and asking my parents, and between us we've come up with about 3 different shades! So the colour will be a suprise, I also can't wait to experience some of this laid back rex behavior for myself:D
Just had a great cuddle session with Smudge, my baby at the moment! He always lies resting against my left arm, head at the right arm side, on his side, like a puppy! It's adorable, having said that watching Blaze dreaming the other day was the cutest, funiest thing I have seen in a long time!Having said that, it's moments like this that make it easy to get through exams ad stuff because I know I'm going to come home to them:D
Will talk to you soon, am off to chop up for late night veggies feast!

Hi Bertie and Beryl arrived the other day (formerly known as Giles and Tara). They live separately from Betty, Boris and Babs but I thought it would be interesting to see how they would interact during floor time. The results were pretty interesting. Boris actually seems to like Bertie (perhaps because Bertie is so submissive) and will lie next to him occasionally yawning to remind him who has the biggest teeth hehe! The big surprise, however, was formerly meek and mild Betty who has decided that she is fed up of being bottom of the hierarchy with Boris and Babs and is out to make sure Bertie and Beryl know she is above them. So she keeps chasing them about and trying to nip their bums (humph Betty). However, Boris will often intervene and stop Betty like a UN peacekeeper! Am carefully monitoring the interactions. Just thought you'd like to know about the surprising Boris/Bertie relationship Alex x

:Di was wondering about my 3 piggies. i rescued two babies about a year and a half ago. We got two because i couldn't pick which 1 i loved more! but i wanted 2 pair them up with my lonely piggie but my mum said wait till their older and when they were older we tried again and ginger seemed 2 not really care but fuzzy . . . . he rumbled at hazelnut even if they were sitting on my lap. so now i still have a piggie who is by him self, is their no hope for all the three to get on well together? ?? ps for the people who gave me advice on squeaky pigs site on the forum Ive used the cysts stuff and ginger has made a full recovery!

Very glad Ginger is better Naomi. What sex are the piggys? This will help us advise. If theyt are girls pairing up is more simple. With boys 3 is not a good number and even 2 can be difficult. Boys need to be introduced slowly and carefully and even then there are no garuntees they will get on. Check out the options section of my site www.barmy4boars.co.uk for more info
