Hi all,
I have a lone boar who is about 6 months old. I would like to introduce him to a 4-month old boar. I have a cage that's big enough for 2 large rabbits, and currently my 6 month old is living in there alone (we've had him for about 4 months.)
I plan to clean out the cage thoroughly and follow the steps outlined on this site for introducing them. But would it also be necessary to have one or both neutered? I would like to avoid this if I can but will do what would be best for both of these guys. I wasn't sure if I should get the 6 month old neutered before trying to introduce them, or if it would be Ok to go forward with both of them intact.
Thanks for the advice, Jenn

I am not sure neutering is any guarantee. The ages you mention are right in puberty, so some rumblestruttung will ensue! I think just perservere.

Thanks, Julie! I spent several days trying to introduce these guys. It took several tries, and I finally just put their cages side by side for about 3 days and left them alone. This morning, I put them in a play yard together, separated them twice when they got too rambunctious, and they've been together peacefully now for about 5 hours in the play yard. I hope this means victory--stay tuned! Thanks again, Jenn

Jenn hows it going? Well I hope! Sorry I missed your question, but you did the right thing in not neutering them. With guineas, unlike dogs, rabbits etc nuetering has no effect on their behaviour. Basically if they are going to get on they will and if not they won't, intact or otherwise.
My tips for making it work are a slow and steady introduction which it souns like you have done.
Giving them the largest cage possible so they can have 2 bowls, 2 hidey houses, space to get away from each other if they wish and still have room to excercise.
Good luck!
