I have two baby boars Moxie and Cenci ( about 9 and 11 weeks) who are really great friends, even when they can see and smell the females.
But I just adopted an older boar, Marco. I have no idea what age he is but he's big and looks a few years old to me at least. He's really placid and friendly.
So, perhaps stupidly, I thought that since Marco is so placid I'd introduce him to the other two boars, on neutral territory. Marco was just eating and so were the others. Moxie went up to say hello. Cenci went up to say hello but was looking pretty scared too. They were all talking away to each other happily. Then suddenly Cenci lunged at Marco so I put my hand out and Cenci bit me really hard. So I picked up Marco and stoof up and Cenci attacked my foot. So a bad introduction . . . for me anyway! Cenci is the most dominant of him and Moxie I suppose.
I know I should have let them get used to each other first, so now they're in hutches and runs next to each other, and I'm going to swap them over every day so they get used to each others smells.
Do you think they can ever be friends? Moxie and Cenci are really friendly too. I guess I should move the girls further away too so the boys can't smell them.
Or would trying to get them to be friends be likely to cause Moxie and Cenci to fall out? If it will then I really don't want that to happen.
I have room to keep Marco seperate for now, and if they never make friends then I can either get another baby boy to be Marco's friend, or get Marco neutered so he can live with the girls. I really hope he can be friends with the boys though, it'd be nice.
